Bionic Power's PowerWalk™ is a knee based kinetic energy harvester that enables the recharging of batteries in the field by simply walking. PowerWalk™ is currently being developed for the military markets, but there are a number of consumer and professional markets worth pursuing. The U.S. Army and Canadian Forces are funding PowerWalk’s military development and testing. It can generate an average of 12 Watts of power, which is stored in a battery. This power is generated with little or no extra user effort (see Science paper in Press section). A military product will be ready for limited soldier testing this fall. We have proposals with both the U.S. Army and Canadian Forces to continue to develop the product through MILSPEC, engineering for small scale manufacturing and squad level field testing. The first version of the professional/consumer product will be based on the military product with battery & electronics built into each gear box. Thus, we have a need for this funding.
